Biography
Morpho Anamorphic Sculptor
Bruno Gouagout, better known by his artist name « Morpho », is a French plastic sculptor specializing in anamorphosis.
Born in 1985, he developed a strong taste for artistic creation from a young age. Affected by a genetic disease, cystic fibrosis, it was through art in all its forms that he was able to escape during his long stays in the hospital.
After studying visual arts in France, as well as architecture and graphic design in Athens, he shared his knowledge by teaching applied arts for six years starting from 2009.
In 2015, he took the time to perfect his skills in digital tools and cutting-edge technologies. He also enriched his imagination and personal experiences by sailing the seas aboard his sailboat.
It was from September 2019 that Morpho began to fully dedicate himself to his passion.
The discovery of anamorphic sculpture was a true revelation for him both creatively and personally. By exploring its contours, probing its limits, and refining its complexity, he considers anamorphic sculpture, with its multiple points of view, to be the very expression of art in all its purity.
He discovered a philosophy that nourished his artistic journey. This approach led him to redefine the very meaning of his art, and he now considers himself as a « metamorphic sculptor ».
Artistic Approach
Morpho is a multi-disciplinary artist. His work is intended to be cross-disciplinary and versatile. He plays with traditional techniques like gold leaf gilding and cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing. Constantly experimenting, each of his works is unique and an opportunity to develop new skills.
Like the artist Marcus Reitz who inspired him in his work, Morpho prefers to talk about metamorphic sculpture rather than anamorphosis. His works are actually a fusion of several anamorphoses brought together in a single volume.
The sculpture transforms itself by offering different representations that are revealed according to certain very specific points of view.
For Morpho, his works are not illusions because nothing is hidden. He appeals to the intelligence and curiosity of the spectators. He plays with their senses and puts their imagination to the test.
I am in what could be called the intuitive period of my art. This is what I seek, it is intentional, creating without a direct line, only with my intuition. Creating is existing.

« What fascinates me about symbols is what I call the invisible language. Behind each symbol hides a library. I like lightness, often it hides great complexity. I find that symbols, pictograms are a form of universal language. Their simplified representation, sometimes childish, aims to get closer to the essential. »

» To create my sculptures, to go from dream to reality, I first make sure to find the right balance between beauty, message and technique. A process guided by emotion… intuition. Just imagining it gives it its first breath of life. «
Metamorphic sculpture is not just an artistic expression for Morpho, it is also a form of communication, a conversation between the artist and the public. It encourages spectators to engage in a dialogue with the sculpted object.
The artist likes to play with symbols. They have been used to represent abstract concepts, give meaning to rituals and beliefs, or tell stories. They create links and points of convergence between different groups of people.
His research on symbolic perception has led Morpho to explore the notion of point of view, a fascinating concept that profoundly influences our perception of reality.
« Each individual possesses a unique subjectivity that shapes his experience of the world. In other words, we cannot claim to access an absolute and objective truth, because we are prisoners of our personal perspective. This means that our beliefs, emotions, and experiences directly influence our perception of reality. »
The artist wants to lead the spectator to go back and forth between what he perceives and what he understands, between the general vision and the details. A bit like the cubists who break down objects, he breaks down ideas, to promote understanding and raise new questions.
« Settling for a single point of view is like observing the world through a keyhole. It restricts our understanding of the world. On the other hand, multiplying points of view encourages us to explore and question our own representations. This encourages us to seek different perspectives and foster constructive dialogue between them. In this way, we can develop a more nuanced and deeper vision of reality. »
With his metamorphic sculptures, the artist’s intention is to promote multiple perspectives, to keep in mind that we can only understand things after observing them from all angles. Morpho invites us to explore our own limits and dream of a better world.
Entering my universe is to begin its metamorphosis... From the caterpillar that sees a blade of grass to the butterfly that flies over the meadow, the experience of perspective is always poetic and surprising.
